Anyone who is feeling stress, anger, shame, sadness or any other unpleasant emotion is not likely to learn or retain information. Stephen Krashen refers to the “Affective Filter” in these cases. No matter what an instructor does, the learner can not absorb much when emotions get in the way.
Drawing from my background in language acquisition and outdoor learning, I’ll share some strategies to help lower the Affective Filter and create an atmosphere in which learners are more receptive to input. I will focus on using the outdoors and puppets to support student well-being and improve the classroom climate.
We will spend part of our time together outside.
